Where in the world did summer go??  And now we are well into Fall. How time flies.....all the more reason to slow down and enjoy all the simple things, a beautiful sunrise, watching the chickens chase bugs, baking with the kids, you get the idea. Those are the good parts in life.
Well, we have two new additions to our farm. Shelby, the potbelly pig, and Chloe, the puppy. These new additions have been quite the hit around here. Shelby is my youngest daughter's pig. She's wanted a pig for a few years, saved her money the past year, and finally got her wish. She is so proud of her. And did you know, pigs are the fourth smartest animal.....smarter than a dog. You can train them to do everything a dog can...even bark!!  I have to say, she is a smart little cookie. She's in with the chickens, sleeps in the coop, the whole nine yards. She doesn't sleep in the nest boxes like Lucy, the goat, used to do. She probably doesn't do this only because her little legs are just too short. I think she loves her home with the chickens.
Now for Chloe......oh my goodness, I don't even know where to start.  She's quite a character, thinks she's really tough, but in reality, very gangly and awkward right now. She's still in the puppy phase so she's all legs and really has no control over her speed. She is very sweet and loves to play with her ball.  She would love to play with Precious, our beagle, but Precious really doesn't want any part of that. She's far too mature for that kind of thing.  I can just imagine that she's saying, "Watch it kid...I was here long before you came into the picture. Don't mess with me."  And of course Chloe doesn't have a clue of her boundaries because she's just so jolly and thinks everyone and everything loves her. Well, she's right for the most part. She is pretty lovable, awkward, but lovable.

Beauty In The Sky

When I see the sun peeking out from the clouds like this it makes me think God is smiling.  Kinda like He's saying, don't lose sight of Me, remember what you're here for.....to glorify Me. Takes my breath away.

Little Chocolate Heavens

These are my new addiction. OH MY GOODNESS!!  These are so yummy.....and so very simple.

Spread peanut butter in between two Ritz crackers and then dip in chocolate, I used Almond Bark. In the bottom picture we sprinkled Heath chips on top. You could get creative and use whatever sprinkles you want. So simple and sooooo very good!  Since I started making these, the container hasn't been empty. Yummm!!

Ok, so let me tell you about our horse and goat. My son's hero since he was seven has been Roy Rogers. Some good friends of ours found a Palomino horse that just so happened to have a registered name of Trigger! It was meant to be. He is a good horse and absolutely beautiful. We have had a lot of fun riding him and I have had fun giving riding lessons on him. Now for Lucy, our beloved pigmy goat. She is a hoot!  One of my daughters mentioned to a sweet old man at church that she wanted  a goat, and by golly, he got her one. Told me he was bringing it out and that was pretty much it. I didn't have time to refuse, even though I wouldn't have. When we first got her she would sleep in the chicken coop......in the nest boxes!!  You know, goats think they are whatever animal they are around. Well, now she hangs with Trigger and they are best buds. I have gotten quiet attached to that little goat and the kids get a kick out of her!

I'm Back, I'm Back, I'm Back!

Well, it's been a long time!!!  I'm back to posting after all these years.  We still have a farm with one horse, one goat, one cat, one dog, one hundred chickens, and ninety quail. The quail are a new venture, and one I'm not liking so much. They are a little hard to please with not much personality.....none, for that matter.  Nothing like chickens, that's for sure. I think the quail business will be something that we will let go pretty soon.  My son has his twenty-five chickens for his business and we ordered fifty for our business. I also wanted to try my hand at meat birds. Soooo, we ordered twenty-five of those. They should be ready to butcher by May. I'm excited about fresh meat in the freezer! And the thought that I know exactly what's in those birds is very exciting.
It's time to plant potatoes in the garden.  That'll be my goal for this weekend!  Is Spring here yet??

So, out of the corner of my eye I see something move on the front porch. I turn to look and there is a snake slithering on the porch......thankfully it's a baby snake but still, a snake is a snake. I go out onto the porch and look at it a minute thinking, and how many cats do we have?????? You've got to be kidding me! Looking around I don't see a cat in sight and then I found them, taking cat naps (no pun intended) on the back porch. All would have been well had they just decided to rest on the front. Anyway, I killed it and have no idea what kind it was. I really do need to get a book on snakes so I can at least identify them when they visit on the front porch.
